Participating in Mental Health Treatment

Families are expected and encouraged to participate in mental health treatment at Shadow Mountain. Families are the most important support system for children who are having difficulties, trying new coping skills and working to change. Family relationships are critical to children’s health and their growth and happiness.

When children or teens encounter problems, the entire family is affected. Usually, stress in the family increases as parents work to respond to their child’s difficulties. With family therapy, counselors can help families communicate, gaining an understanding of their child and become effective advocates for their child.

Learning to nurture, support and respond to your child will decrease family stress and increase your child’s recovery to his or her fullest potential.
